Tampa Bay Ski Club Trip Leaders

Welcome to the Trip Leaders Section of our Web Site! These hard working, fun loving people will be very important to you. If you have never been on one of our trips, this is what you can expect from your trip leader...

Before you go they are hard at work planning activities and social events for you to enjoy on the trip. Each has been to the resort before so you are getting first hand information. The leaders are available to you as a source for information about the resort, the lodging, the transportation and the special activities planned.

On the way to the resort, they assist with boarding, check in, bus transportation and general information about the trip schedule or events. At the resort they assist with check in, lift ticket distribution and rental equipment. Then the fun begins! There will be Welcome Receptions, Happy Hours, picnics, parties, even a full dinner on most trips! Each leader is different; each has their own knack for entertaining. But they are always looking out for their travelers and making sure they all have a good time. And then on the few occasions when “Murphy’s Law” is in effect, they are there to help.

A couple of things they are not are:  baby sitters, nursemaids, bookkeepers, baggage handlers, dishwashers or ski instructors. All travelers are urged to work together to make the trip more fun for everyone.  We are pleased to have such a dedicated, experienced group of leaders, look them over and join us for a great ski trip!

Alan & Nancy Jackson - Floral City, FL

Alan – I moved from Pennsylvania to Florida when I was 12yrs old. When growing up as a teenager I started skiing with my friends in North Carolina, loved the sport, and knew I wanted to continue. When I started going out west and Canada, where the snow was light and fluffy, I haven’t looked back.  I have lead travelers on 23 ski trips since 1986, and have been to 48 different resorts, some twice. I love that I get to meet and ski with new friends every year. The adventure of skiing and leading groups is what I love to do and to have them enjoy the adventure with me is priceless. You can’t get any better than that.

Nancy-  I am a Florida native and didn’t see snow until I was an adult. My first experience of skiing was Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany in 1988.  I fell in love with it and didn’t want to stop. I have never skied anywhere else except out West and Canada. I have been to 32 different resorts, some twice. After helping Alan on several of his trips since 2006, I started leading my own trips since 2010. It has been my pleasure, and I look forward to each year to meet and ski with new friends. I can’t hardly wait for each ski season to come around to join in the adventures with Alan.

WE LOVE TO SKI!!!!!!!!!

I grew up in Cleveland, Ohio and began skiing on some of the smaller hills in that area starting at 14 years old.  I graduated to the slopes of upstate New York and really got the ski bug in my early 20s.  When I moved to Boston, after graduating college, I skied quite a bit in New Hampshire and Vermont.  I did not know about the slopes out West.  I was a happy camper.

When I moved to Florida after the blizzard of ’78 in Boston, I worked in the finance and accounting area.  I was in public accounting and then was CFO of banks and insurance companies.  When I first went on vacation skiing out West in the early 80s, I never had the desire to ski in the East again.  The conditions and terrain in the West are terrific!  I have skied in Europe, as well and find the skiing to be fun and different!

I love Big Sky, Keystone, Park City and all of the places in between.  Actually, it is hard to think of a ski area in Utah, Montana or Colorado that I do not like.  Canada also offers a large variety of exciting destinations.  I usually team up with Ruby Johnson and I can tell you that we will ensure that everyone has a great time!  I look forward to another wonderful ski season!!

Bonnie Ormerod - Niwot, CO

I’m a Maryland/DC native and learned to ski in the northeast visiting Smuggler’s, Stowe, Killington, Sugarbush (“Ice Mountains”). I thought it was natural to ski in frigid temperatures and on ice and to me it was the best in the world. Life hands you opportunities, and I moved to FL years ago and missed this passion of being in the snow and mountains.

Another door of opportunity knocked when I read the Tampa Bay Ski Club ad in the paper several years ago announcing their Kick-Off Party. I went out to the Rockies that year and the rest is history. I have met wonderful people and created a lot of new friendships in this ski club. Skiing is a passion of mine and I am eager to share my energy and enthusiasm with you. I came to love Colorado so much that I moved out here a few years ago. Some of you may enjoy all the group activities while others may want to kick back and just enjoy quite time relaxing or pampering yourself in the spa. This is your trip and your vacation, and I hope to make it special for all of you. I’m looking forward to being your host providing you with fantastic memories long after we return home.

Over the years I have skied various mountains including Heavenly, Squaw, Kirkwood, Sierra, Park City, Deer Valley, Cannons, Snowbasin, Brian Head, Key Stone, Steamboat, Breckenridge, Winter Park, Snowmass, Copper and Vail.

Bonnie Sklaren - Gulfport, FL

I have been skiing for over 40 years, starting this adventure on Mammoth Mountain in California.  I have had the pleasure to ski many resorts in the United States, Canada, Europe and South America.  My favorite by far is the ski resorts in the Rockie Mountains of Colorado.  Great terrain, fabulous snow and awesome après ski.  I have had the pleasure to ski with the Tampa Bay Ski Club for several years.  We have met a number of wonderful and fun people and made new friends.  We have been to Snowmass, Breckenridge, Copper Mountain, Telluride, Vail and Banff.  All have been memorable, each in its own way.  Whatever we do we inevitably do Copper Mountain in addition.  There is terrain for all levels of skiers, good snow, and après ski opportunities, easy access to the slopes and lift tickets that let us bypass any long lines. Chris and I hope you will seriously consider joining us on this fun ski adventure.

Chad Blackmon:

Hi! My name is Chad Blackmon and I am an Insurance and Investment Advisor with Big Financial Services here in the Tampa area. I like to work hard, play harder! I got into snowboarding 4 seasons ago because it was one of those things I've always wanted to do (bucket list item). The thing is...I really got into it, and now it's something I do every year! I have been to Crested Butte, and to Copper Mountain twice. I'm excited to hit Breckinridge next, and some over seas trips. I have been a member of Tampa Bay Ski Club for the past several seasons because of the friendships I've made at the club, as well as family members that work with the club. I really love the energetic and positive vibe with everyone at TBSC and it makes for a very fun and memorable experience. I really enjoy working and socializing with people and I'm looking forward to meeting everyone on our upcoming trip and having a great time!

Cindy Dickerson

Hello Skiers and Boarders:

My name is Cindy Dickerson and I am the trip leader of the Copper 1 and Club Med Chamonix trip. A little about me… I am the commercial sales manager for Carrier Air Conditioning, a great company where I have worked for 27 years. My son Zack has been my “unofficial” assistant  or traveling companion for as long as I can remember and is now sometimes a trip leader for ski club as well as working there part time while in college.  He and I have also been going on ski trips together for many years and it is the best uninterrupted family time we get all year. It’s pretty hard to get that around home!

I have been skiing and boarding for about 15 years, and have led club trips every year for at least 12 years. Besides the many times I have been to Copper, I have skied and/or boarded at Keystone, Snowmass, Buttermilk, Big Sky, Breckenridge, Park City, Crested Butte, Winter Park, Vail, A-Basin and Steamboat. About ten years ago, I tried boarding and fell in love with it so haven’t strapped the skis on since then but I definitely have the perspective of both sides, having done both. You will find me either on the snow or freshly soaking in the hot tub when the lifts close every day.

I truly like people and that’s why I lead trips. My goal is for everyone on my trips to have a good time and do what they want to do on their vacation, even if it’s take the day off and sit by the fire getting in some quiet reading. I believe that our club has something to offer for the biggest enthusiast down to the family or friend who just wants to get away and take it easy for a little while.

Please consider joining me on one of my trips – we are going to hit the mountain hard and cool our heels with some relaxing R and R in the evenings!!

Fitz Rawls - Tampa, FL

Fitz is a long time skier who enjoys meeting new skiers and re-establishing friendships with many prior ski trip participants. He grew up in Tampa and learned to ski while attending college in New England. When he moved back to Tampa he found that skiing with a local ski club was the easiest, most fun and most economical way to ski from Florida! He soon became a trip leader and has taken over 40 groups to European, South American and Rocky Mountain Resorts. He joined BowenTravelworld in 1994 and is now a Senior Trip Leader for the Tampa Bay Ski Club. He is always willing to share his expertise and experience with anyone looking for “just the right” ski trip.

This year he is leading another “Bucket List” trip, this time to Tignes/Val d’Isere in France. He has a Four Star hotel, with gourmet French meals, ski-in,ski-out on the most asked for ski area in the Alps waiting for you! A unique feature of this trip is a guided tour of and wine tasting in the city of Beaune, the capitol of the Burgundy Provence of France, on the way to 4 days in Paris!

Janine Hebeler:

I grew up in Western New York and spent my youth skiing at a tiny little place named Kissing Bridge. Once I moved to Florida I “hung up” my skis for 12 years. After my years of not skiing, I headed west and learned what truly good skiing really is.

I have had the great fortune of skiing at remarkable places such as: Big Sky, Telluride, Whistler, Deer Valley, Park City, Breckenridge, A-Basin, Keystone, Lake Tahoe, Steamboat, as well as many lesser known western ski areas.

My first trip with the Tampa Bay Ski Club was to Val Thorens, France, where I met and made several lifelong friends. One of those friends is my co-leader on the Vail II trip, Ruby Johnson. Ruby and I will be leading a fun filled trip that you will not want to miss!

Katherine Engelmann

Hello Skiers and Boarders:

My name is Katherine Engelmann and I am the trip leader for the Breckenridge I St. Valentine’s Day ski trip, 2017. I recently joined the Bowen Travel World family in the ski department and have been working alongside Chris in preparing for an awesome upcoming ski season.

My ski experience began 35 year ago and I have been on several club trips as a client, as an assistant and as a leader.  With 2 youngsters we spent many ski vacations in Keystone, as my children matured we ventured out to A-Basin, Aspen, Breckenridge, Copper, Jackson Hole, Park City, Red River, Steamboat, Sun Valley, Tahoe, Taos, Telluride, Winter Park, and Whistler.  If I am not on the snow, you may find me soaking in the hot tub, or exploring the local sites.

I enjoy meeting new people and love skiing, that’s why being a trip leader is a good fit for me. My goal is for everyone to enjoy their ski vacation experience as they see fit, from taking the day off to enjoy other alpine activities, to sitting by the fire enjoying  a warm beverage.  Our club has something to offer everyone, from the biggest enthusiast to the family member or friend who just wants to get away for a change of scenery.
I hope you’ll join me on my trip – we are going to have loads of fun!

Lonette Fedio

Hello Skiers & Boarders!  Are you looking for an adventure you'll never forget?  Ready to make some international ski trip memories?  This Assistant Trip Leader along with the well seasoned & experienced Trip Leader, Debi Oakes are here to make that happen!

I joined the TBSC last ski season blazing trails down the black diamonds on the Valentine's Breckenridge trip and decided to go on the Val Thorens week long excursion, what a Trip!!! I also traveled with friends to Park City, The Canyons & Vail, racking up over 500,000 vertical feet for the season. I have been an avid skier since 1974 having grown up in Oregon forcing the mountain time in the Northwest from Sun Valley to Whistler to Mt. Hood & Mt. Bachelor.  I’ve lived in N California & took in the beauty of the views from every resort around Lake Tahoe and did a stint in Maine as well to hit the eastern terrain while living up there. And let's not forget the numerous hours all over Colorado & Utah slopes for over 30 years in between my relocations.

When I’m not skiing I’m taking in the sun of the Florida beaches, boating, biking, running, kayaking & staying active with traveling.  I’m very high energy so you know I’ll make sure the extra activities are lined up for those who wish to enjoy aprés ski & will ensure it's full of laughs.

Looking forward to hosting your mountain resort fun!

Raoul Weinstein - Formerly from Lakeland, FL, now living in Greenville, SC

Raoul has been skiing the west for over 33 years and has been a trip leader for 19 years. This year's Sertomans & Friends trip, sponsored by the Sertoma Club of Lakeland, will be the 20th annual fundraiser for Camp Endeavor, a camp in Dundee, FL for speech and hearing impaired kids. Over the past 19 years, this fun and fairly-priced trip has raised over $85,000! Raoul always plans three dinner parties for his group plus other activities that keep the group together. He has led numerous ski trips for the Tampa Bay Ski Clubs over the past 18 years. But he never lets his ski trips interfere with his other favorite past-time: being a cruise ship gentleman ballroom dance host! For the past 10 years his cruises have sailed the seven seas and he has visited six continents and toured many of the most exciting and exotic countries in the world. And all he has to do is dance with the ladies each evening -- what a life! He stays in shape for skiing by dancing -- or is it the other way around? He recently married Nancy McMillon in SC, whom he met on two different dance cruises in two different parts of the world, proving that "it is never too late to find happiness!"

Ruby Johnson

My ski passion began with my first trip with the ski club in 1979 to Big Sky, Montana. Being in the travel business afforded me the opportunity to lead trips and ski most of the western resorts, and some of Europe.

After surviving Stage 3 breast cancer, I retired as a travel professional and an Aetna wife and devoted my energies to leisure activities as well as charity work. I have served as chairperson for the Memorial Day Charity Tennis Tournament held at East Lake Woodlands Country Club in Oldsmar, Florida for the past 20 years having raised over $550,000 for Morton Plant Mease Foundation, The Arthritis Foundation, Friedreich’s Ataxia Research Alliance (FARA), and our current benefactor, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tampa Bay.

Having been a member of East Lake Woodlands Country Club for 25 years, I have served three terms on the Tennis Committee and am currently serving as its Chairperson.

Hey ya'll (yes, I am currently residing in Music City USA, Nashville, TN)!!!  I have been part of several TBSC ski trips in the past couple years and just recently got back into skiing.  I took a brief break from skiing (25 years) and two years ago I jumped back into it.  As all my friends said, "it's like riding a bike".  Sure enough it was, a couple runs and I was back to skiing the bumps and everything else.  I grew up in Colorado, so most of the ski resorts (areas) in Colorado I have skied growing up.  I prefer skiing and haven't tried snowboarding yet.  I will ski anything and everything, and look forward to hitting the slopes with you all.  If you want to give me a shout, feel free to shoot me an e-mail, or give me a ring, I will try my best to answer any and all of your questions or inquiries, please call me at.   615 473-8920

Tomi Rawls - Tampa, FL

My name is Tomi Rawls, and my husband, Fitz, and I will be leading the ”Bucket List” trip to Zermatt and St. Moritz, Switzerland, January 17th-29th. A bit of background.....I grew up skiing on a frozen "hill" called Boyne Mountain in northern Michigan - and later graduated to the equally frozen mountains of New England. BUT, I didn't know any better so I loved it....and I sure learned how to EDGE!!

Oddly, moving to Florida opened up Western skiing to me. I worked as a ski planner for Bowen Travelworld for many years. I have been fortunate to ski almost every major ski resort in the West. About 20 years ago, we started leading trips to Europe - which gave me more things to love about skiing. The panoramas of the Alps are truly breathtaking. The intimacy of the villages and the enormity of the skiable terrain is a perfect combination. Winter sports were invented, or at least perfected, in these villages. Ski, board, Nordic ski, skate, sleigh ride (real sleighs, not hay wagons),....it is all there.

I find there is a wonderful camaraderie that occurs with these groups to European destinations. Since our hotel provides breakfast and dinner, we have more time to enjoy the group....not just the people with whom we are skiing. The discovery of an incredible run and the description of spectacular wipe out is shared. And, (beware all you men) AMAZING SHOPPING is described in full detail!!! . There is a huge variety of runs, cuisine for a worldwide clientele and shopping to make all the ladies happy! I hope you will join us on this trip it is guaranteed to be a memory-maker!!

Tracy Kirkpatrick - Lakeland, FL

Hello everyone, I have lived in Lakeland since birth and I’ve worked for the City of Lakeland for over 30 years. I love the great outdoors and sports, so when a lifelong friend invited me on my first ski trip in 2000, I jumped at the chance since I was a true Floridian and had not experienced snow. Since that first trip to Banff Canada, I have managed to average 2 trips a year to North America’s Winter Wonderlands.

Although I joined winter sports late in life, I’ve been skiing for over 16 years and have lead and assisted on many trips both private and for the club. I truly enjoy the people I’ve met and helped on these trips, and will do whatever I can to ensure you have a great time on your trip no matter what you want to do.

I’ve skied in the East, but I love being in the Western mountains of the US and Canada and have skied most all the big names.

Let me show you a great time in Mt. Bachelor Or., February 24- March 3rd, 2018.
